The much heralded cuts in public spending faced by Scotland are unprecedented and the likely effects far-reaching.

New analysis of the UK Government’s Emergency Budget puts the cumulative reduction at £42bn. According to the Fraser of Allander Institute, it could result in the loss of 126,000 jobs in Scotland over the next five years, 90,000 of them in the public sector.
